  1. Producing Fruit.

    References: 2 Peter 1:1-8 and John 15:1-16
According to 2 Peter 1:2-4, God has given us “faith” and all the graces necessary for “life and godliness” and in verses 5-7, Peter encourages us to keep growing (intentionally and deliberately) in spiritual maturity by adding to our faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge..…………………godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. If we “make every effort to supplement our faith” with these qualities then we will neither be ineffective nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord.

The secret then to producing fruit, much fruit is:

    1. Abiding – In Christ and He in us, as we see from John 15:4-5, as the branch, we must remain attached to Him who is the vine and draw our life from Him. We must yield our will to Him and allow Him to live His life through us which involves us coming to the end of ourselves and realizing that apart from Him we are nothing and can do nothing.

    2. Not resisting God’s purifying or pruning ministry our lives John 15:2. Pruning is as necessary in our lives as it is for fruit trees. The best fruit comes from the new growth after the pruning has taken place. God (the gardener) is never closer to us (the branches) than when He is doing His pruning. We must be growing all the time in the Lord to be productive.

Let us therefore continue to abide in Christ, stay diligent in our devotion to righteousness, give thanks for the times of pruning and times of growth and may we continue to bear much and excellent fruit for the glory of God.

    In Christ,
